Free Crochet Alphabet Pattern

Materials:

  • Worsted Weight #4 Yarn
  • Size F/3.75mm hook
  • Tapestry needle

Stitches Used:

fsc, ch, sc, slst

Foundation single crochet (fsc) – ch2, insert hook into 2nd chain from hook, yo draw up a loop, yo draw through 1 (this creates the next foundation chain), yo draw through 2 (this completes the single crochet)
*insert hook into the next foundation chain just created, yo draw up a loop, yo draw through 1, yo draw through 2
Repeat from * until total fsc completed

Chain (ch) - yo (yarn over), pull through loop on hook

Single crochet (sc) - insert hook in indicated stitch, yo draw up a loop, yo draw through 2

Slip Stitch (slst) - insert hook in indicated stitch, yo draw through stitch as well as the loop on hook

Pattern:

Fsc 15

Row 1:
Ch1, turn, sc in each across [15sc]

Row 2:
Ch1, turn, sc in each across [15sc]


Row 3:
Ch10, turn, sc in second ch from hook, sc in each ch across, sl st to the next st on Row 2 [9sc]

Row 4:
Slst into the next st on Row 2, turn, sc in each sc across [9sc]

Row 5:
Ch1, turn, sc in each sc across, slst to next st on Row 2 [9sc]

Fasten Off
Weave in Ends
Block

No Fsc start:

Row 1:
Ch15, turn, sc second ch from hook, sc in each st across [15sc]

Rows 2 & 3:
Ch1, turn, sc in each across [15sc]

Row 4:
Ch10, turn, sc in second ch from hook, sc in each ch across, sl st to the next st on Row 2 [9sc]

Row 5:
Slst into the next st on Row 2, turn, sc in each sc across [9sc]

Row 6:
Ch1, turn, sc in each sc across, slst to next st on Row 2 [9sc]

  1. Thank you for the pattern; when I make afghans for the family, I like to crochet their names or initials and some of my letters are not as pretty as others.

  2. Do you have patterns for Y, S and R? I love the look of these! I’ve never done a fsc before, but now that I have, I really like it. I love the continuous crocheting of these patterns. Awesome, awesome, awesome!

      They are in the works, Tamaram69! The one version of S I have currently is 90 degree corners. The more curvy companion will be done soon.
